Taylor Ryan, class of 2011 was selected to represent Australia in the U19 Men's Lacrosse Team for the National College Championships in Maryland, USA and then on to the World Championships in Turku, Finland in June/July this year.
Tom Li Class of 2010 was selected as an alternate for the same team.
This is very exciting as Taylor and Tom both only started playing Lacrosse when they began attending Melbourne High in Year 9. This is a great opportunity for both boys who are grateful for the opportunities afforded them during their time at Melbourne High.
Taylor began playing Lacrosse when he started at MHS in 2008. In his first year he played in under 14's in a team combined with MCC as there were not enough players for his age group in the school community. Taylor loved the game from the beginning, being able to use his Basketball knowledge to convert to the Lacrosse field. He won Best and Fairest for MHS every year from 2008-2011 and won Player of Victoria U16's in 2010 and runner up for U18's 2011.
At the beginning of 2011 Taylor began the series of selection camps held in both Melbourne and Adelaide to be selected for the U19 Men's Australian team. After a gruelling year of tryouts and plagued with an ankle injury Taylor was notified of selection as part of the team in December 2011 to represent Australia at the World Championships in Finland, July 2012. The team will start their program in Maryland, USA with a College tournament held at Maryland University and then on to Turku, Finland. This is a very exciting time with many hours of training to be of the standard to compete on the world stage. Taylor has taken a gap year to pursue his dream.
