John Miller AO - Global Accounting Hall of Fame

Dr John Miller AO, MHS 1944-47, a Bluey Truscott Scholar and generous Old Boy to the school was recently admitted to the Global Accounting Hall of Fame with the citation : ‘In recognition of an outstanding contribution and a lifetime of achievement’. John has had a remarkable career in the accounting profession, in academia and in government. A notable accountant with Hungerfords, he also served in government service in Canada as well as in Australia, as Director of Consumer Affairs. He held an outstanding academic career as a Professor and Foundation Dean of the David Syme Business School at Monash University, and later as Dean of the Graduate School of Management at Swinburne University.

A former President of CPA Australia, John was the first Australian to be President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants which today represents around 700,000 professional accountants. John was a pioneer of education for company directors and on the formation of AIDC in 1991 was appointed a Life Member. John is founder of the John Button Prize and was first Chairman of the John Button Foundation. (After retiring from politics in 1993 Hon. John Button was appointed a Professorial Fellow in the David Syme Faculty of Business). John Miller was awarded the AO in 1979 and the Centenary Medal in 2003 with the citation “For Leadership in the Accounting Profession, University Education and the Public Sector”
